I am still alive...
I just thought I'd post a quick update. I have basically been working like crazy since right before the holidays. I worked most days over the holidays except Dec. 24th/25th and Jan 2nd and maybe a couple scattered weekend days. At least most of those were half days. But with my family and Scott's family in town, it was a bit of a hassle. I've been working every single day (including weekends) since early January and I am getting burnt out. We have a big meeting coming up at the end of the month, so luckily there is an end in sight. So, that's why I haven't been around much lately.
I am hoping that I can manage to not go into work tomorrow at least and just a few days next week, then take several days for some much needed rest. My life has been work, then coming home and spacing out and chilling with Scott.
Somehow, I also managed to try the 10 day free trial of World of Warcraft just to see what everyone's been doing for the last few years. I'm on like day 2 or 3 I think. It is fun...somewhat brainless (which is probably what my brain has needed lately) and sometimes frustrating. I generally don't play video games because I can get addicted to them. I could definitely see that happening with WoW. It is fun. But, I don't really think it's something I'll pursue because it would eat up all my free time. Plus, I'd have to buy the game.
I dunno. That's about it for now.

I just want to say that I am so happy and amazed that Obama won. It's still sinking in.
I, too, am sad about Prop 8, but I know that it will be overturned, it's just a matter of time. Hopefully sooner than later.
I'm still exhausted today, but so happy to be part of this moment in history.
Scott and I have been in Jefferson County, Colorado canvassing door to door and just returned Tuesday in time to vote and then celebrate with friends.
Scott canvassed 6 days in a row, all day. I flew out last Thursday and did three full days. It's such tiring work, but I'm so glad that I did it. The county we were in is outside of Denver in the hills and mountains. It's a bellwether county and we saw a lot of McCain / Palin signs. We also saw a lot of Obama / Biden too, which was nice. In general, people were pretty friendly, even if they were getting annoyed at all the calls and attention they were getting. It was Colorado's first time as a swing state. A lot of people there are also very private about their opinions, so we got a lot of people who wouldn't who they supported, which didn't necessarilly mean it wasn't your guy.
My worst experience was when a guy opened the door, saw my Obama stuff, flipped me off and slammed the door in my face. I had to sit down and cry for a bit, not only because of how rude he was, but how exhausting the work is and it's just hard to deal with something like that after a long day. Scott felt horrible because he didn't think anyone was home at that place and had asked me to just quickly go and do it. Of course Scott wanted to go back and chew the guy out, but I talked him out of going back. It is amazing how rude some people can be and how they don't realize how much their actions can affect others.
In general though, it was a really positive experience and people seemed to appreciate what we were doing and were excited about the campaign. It was also very cool to be up in one community, and then look up at the mountain side above us and see the house from Woody Allen's Sleeper just sitting there. The wife of our host family actually went to a democratic women's event at that house while we were there with Gloria Steinem. Evidently, the orgasmatrons are still in the house and they are elevators. :)

We spent Halloween in the little town of Evergreen at a booth there handing out candy and stickers and yard signs and posters. A lot of people were excited to see us, even people who supported McCain and just liked that a political discussion was going on. And it was cool to see kids get excited about what was going on and maybe have an interest in politics.
In the end Jefferson county went 53% Obama, 44% McCain and Udall (DEM) won the Senate seat 51 to 41%. So, I felt like our work paid off.
Now that we've done it, lets hope that some changes for the better can be made!

Worried about having an anti-choice, creationist, book-banning VP who would become president if anything should happen to McCain should they be elected in November?
Scary: http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/9/11/94942/4273
What can you do to help get the current administration out of the White House? Do you find yourself thinking: Yeah, I'll vote for Obama, but I live in California, what can I do? It'll go democrat anyway.
Well, yes, it will go for Obama if you vote. So make sure you vote! But there's more you can do. Donate. Your time or even $10 to help the Obama campaign. Obama isn't taking public funding and special interest money, he's relying on private donations.
seymourglass33 has made a personal goal to raise $1000 for Obama. This is about more than just supporting the campaign. It’s also about making a statement that ordinary Americans working together can make a real difference and change Washington.
If you want to see Obama win this fall and haven't done anything about yet, don't just sit there. Help his campaign reach out where it's needed most--to the independents and swing voters/states. Like I said before, even a small amount would help.
To help seymourglass33 reach his goal go here to donate:

I have not updated in a while... I probably won't update too much right now either.
Oh well. Things are good in general.
But!! I know you are all raving sports fans... If you would like to join Scott and I for any of the Raiders football home games this season, Scott can get discounted tickets in our section. Check out his post here: http://seymourglass33.livejournal.com/5159.html ... Let us know if you'd be interested. There will be tailgating.
And yeah, I agree... Dark Knight was awesome. Wall-E was cute.

Hey all..
Haven't updated much. Nothing major going on, other than work exploding and being crazy for a few weeks again. This happens about every 3 to 6 months here. It sucks, but when it's over, the job is pretty mellow.
Anyway, haven't had much time to jump on the computer lately and catch up with people. (I am just now finishing up my lunch from the first break I've had today.) Anyway, the 54th Annual North Beach Festival is happening in my hood this weekend. Scott and I are going to go check it out tomorrow (Saturday). Anyone interested?
http://www.sfnorthbeach.org/NorthBeachFest2007/
Not sure what time we'll be going, but leave a comment or get in touch if you're interested and I'll fill you in more later. We may try to check out Stompy Jones at 2pm.
Have a good weekend!
UPDATE: Looks like I'll actually have to work tomorrow since the director came in at 4pm and said he wanted all this craziness done several days earlier. :( So, no festival for me.

Hey all...
I'll be at Maker Faire on Saturday with SWARM. I'll be working from set-up to about 2pm, then wandering around looking at stuff. For some reason, our location isn't listed, but I think we are outside on the grass somewhere. I'm not sure. I should probably find out though if I'm helping to set up. :) I will update when I find out. I'm also dragging Scott along, so maybe we'll see you if you're there during the day!
I have plans Saturday night, so I'll probably leave before sundown, which means I'll miss the pretty pretty lit up Swarm, FLG's new Mutopia and other fire/light thingys at night. That's OK though, I've either seen them before or will be able to see them again.
Come play!

Hey all my tech savvy friends...
We recently decided to go with Comcast Cable internet. So, that's all set up, but now we need to buy a wireless router so we can be online at the same time.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I have a MacBook Pro and Scott has a PC laptop. I've used an Apple Airport before and that seemed to work pretty well on both, but are there other brands that work well? Or do any of you have an unused one lying around somewhere?
Thoughts, opinions, ideas?
Thanks!

Just so you all know and don't get confused, St. Patrick's Day is on March 15th this year so it doesn't interfere with Holy Week. That's a Saturday. Woo!

I got this from a list I'm on and think it's a really great and easy thing to do for some needy animals. Clicky clicky often!:
Free Food for Animal Shelter www.theanimalrescuesite.com
The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an animal in need" for free. It's in a purple box in the middle of the page. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

It's been busy lately :) I haven't updated in forever. I blame it on Scrabulous in Facebook.
Been doing all sorts of things: robots, art, absinthe, friends, games... the usual. I did take some time last week to relax though. Went to the Smuin Christmas Ballet last night with some friends, which was really lovely. The first half was more "traditional" style ballet, with one jewish number thrown in (which was the most fun). But I think my favorite was one with the women doing some really nice dances holding hands and circling and things. The second half was more modern and experimental with songs like "Santa Baby", Elvis tunes, and the "It's cold outside" song. Those were really cute, some were very cheesy, but it was a fun show, the dancers were great and I'm glad I went.
I went to two craft fairs this weekend:
Went to the Bizarre Bazaar yesterday in SF. That was really nice and a lot bigger than I expected. Of the two, it was more "soft-crafty". In that there was more yarn, felt, clothing, accessories and sewing projects of all sorts. A few jewelry booths and so on. A lot like the Maker Fair craft room. I only managed to get a few presents here, but ended up with a few things for myself as well. I have a problem going to these things and thinking, "Hey that's cool! ... but I could make that myself for so much cheaper!" The problem is will I ever actually make said things? Probably not.
This morning, I worked the Flaming Lotus Girls booth at The Crucible's "Hot for the Holidays" craft fair. It was Saturday and Sunday. I worked until about 1pm, then spent the rest of the afternoon shopping for gifts. As could be expected, there was a lot more jewelry and handmade glass and metal things. I really liked a lot of the jewelry at this one and just wished I had more money to spend on people! A lot of really talented artists were there. Some beautiful woodworking, handmade glass, and pottery also. I managed to finish the rest of my major shopping (which sadly is very little) and only got one thing for myself, cause the artist offered three for a discounted price. :) There really wasn't a lot of scarfy, soft, or kitsch action at this one, but since I had jewelry in mind, I liked it better.
Now I just need to get something for my Dad...probably a DVD set or something since my parents are getting a nice flat screen for themselves this year for xmas. And then figure out what to get/make for my friends!
Also, The Crucible was freezing all day today. So, I got all sniffly, came home, and fell asleep. I hope I'm not getting a cold. I opted out of going to see the Crispin Glover thing this weekend. Despite having had a slight crush on him forever (I don't know why I'm attracted to crazy people), I just don't think I could handle his movie. I'd like to see the slideshow and his performance, but I don't have the energy tonight (and am feeling the holiday cash crunch). Ah well.

Hey all,
Not sure what to give your friends for the holidays this year? How about a 2-year Flaming Lotus Girl Calendar?

Hey all,
This is from a friend of mine whose birthday is coming up: 2:16:07 PM: i had a quick question for you 2:16:52 PM: it's actually a question to pose to your friends on your live journal because I'd be interested to see a variety of people's responses on this 2:17:35 PM: is it fair (or even a good idea) to ask your sig. other to quit smoking for your bday present? 2:17:47 PM: he wants to quit but i think he lacks the motivation 2:18:12 PM: i was wondering if asking for that would be a better motivator 2:19:17 PM: and i bet people have a lot of opinions on this question
What do you all think? Good motivation or possibility for resentment?
